The Stone Roses are an English alternative rock band formed in Manchester in 1983. They were one of the pioneering groups of the Madchester movement that was active during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band's most successful lineup consisted of vocalist Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Gary "Mani" Mounfield, and drummer Alan "Reni" Wren.
The band released their début album, The Stone Roses, in 1989. The album was a breakthrough success for the band. At this time the Stone Roses decided to capitalise on their success by signing to a major label; their current record label Silvertone would not let them out of their contract, which led to a long legal battle that culminated with the band signing with Geffen Records in 1991, and then releasing their second album Second Coming in 1994. The group soon disbanded after several lineup changes throughout the supporting tour, which began with Reni first departing, followed by Squire.
In 2011, British tabloids reported that the band were due to reunite for shows in 2012.An announcement was made on 18 October 2011 confirming that the band have re-united and will perform in two shows in Manchester in 2012 followed by a world tour.

Stone Roses are set to reform to play a series of live dates. The Manchester band who split up in 1996. The Stone Roses Reunion was rumoured for week but at a packed Stone Roses press conference the original members Ian John Mani and Reni of the band appeared on stage together for the first time since 1996. The Stone Roses are to play two huge concerts at Heaton Park Manchester on June 29th and June 30th 2012. They will then go on a Stone Roses World Tour. Ian Brown said the band want to take on the world. Brown then said
“We’re going to start off in our home town, Manchester, with two gigs in Heaton Park on June 29 and 30 and after that we’re going to take it round the world.”: ”
