Silverstone chiefs have branded moves to axe Grand Prix Fridays as "madness”. Formula 1 race could soon be two-day events if a bid to ditch the extra day's practice sessions is approved. Richard Phillips and Neil England said fans make a mini family holiday out of a GP weekend and that would end. F1 bosses, promoters and sponsors are looking at options to improve the spectacle. "For us it would be a great shame to lose Friday because a lot of people camp on Friday and stay locally," said Phillips, Silverstone's MD. "Friday is big at Silverstone. It would reduce the people coming to stay." England, the circuit chairman, added: "It would be hugely disappointing for us. Friday is not a huge profit generator for us.
